I wanted to let you know just finished taking the end of Unit 1 assessment. After reviewing each student's assessment it was clear that subtraction with borrowing is a skill that needs some ongoing practice. We reviewed it in class today and I sent home a worksheet for the kids to do over the next week. They have to complete at least 8 problems, but they can do more!
Today we watched a video in class demonstrating two different models for subtraction. One is the standard algorithm and one is a "front end" method typically used in mental math. The kids took notes and wrote down 2 examples for each model. They can use either model to do their homework. Here is a link to the video if you want to check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuQCtDYebyo Please note that there are 4 models. We only looked at the first two so as not to confuse the kids. Thanks for your support, Kathy
