Fish Hatchery Field Trip - Tuesday 9/26
We're very excited for our first field trip of the school year to the Clackamas Fish Hatchery in Estacada. We've scheduled this trip to coincide with spawning time, so hopefully we'll get to watch hatchery workers harvesting eggs from the female salmon. We've been studying the salmon life cycle in class, but witnessing it so viscerally is sure to make it powerfully real for the students. As you know, the gross-out factor always is a big hit with 3rd and 4th graders! This is a half-day field trip. Departure from Springwater is at 9:00 am. Once at the hatchery, we'll split into classes, one of which will tour the hatchery, while the other does an activity on the trail system. At 10:00-10:15 we'll switch. Both Blue Heron classes will gather for a snack at 10:45 and we'll load the bus at 11:00 am. Lunch will be back at school. Since we'll be outside part of the time, kids will need to wear rain jackets and boots. If you'd like to volunteer, please contact us! THIS WEEK 1) Weather: It looks like Fall weather has finally arrived and the forecast is calling for rain in the early part of the week. Make sure your child has an extra set of clothes at school and the proper gear (boots and socks are essential)! 2) Tuesday 9/19 Curriculum Night 6:00- 7:30 pm in the Cafetorium: This will include presentations by a school board member, principal Dawn, and individual classrooms by teachers. Springwater state scores will also be presented. This is a VERYimportant event to attend and it will give parents an opportunity to learn more about the exciting academic year ahead. NO child care will be provided for the evening. If your children attend, they will need to stay with their parents doing quiet activities in the classroom. The playground will be closed due to no adult supervision. 3) Wednesday 9/20: School lunch orders are due 4) Friday 9/22: Family Friday (no school day) 2:00-6:00 pm We look forward to seeing all families this Friday, rain or shine. Come participate in cooking demos, games, crafts, and fall fun. Pizza and Menchies Fro-Yo will be sold. We will have our first annual fall kickball game!!! A sign-up will be at the office for those who want to play. Parents, teachers, and kids of any age can sign up! Teachers will also be available for drop-in sharing for 10-minute mini-conferences to listen to your hopes and dreams for the upcoming year. Sign-ups are on a first-come basis and will be posted on classroom doors at 2pm on Friday. 5) WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! Once the website is back up and running (ack, if you didn't notice, we're having technical difficulties!) I'll re-post the signup sheets. In addition to FFS, please consider helping out with art, lunch duty, kitchen angels, the garden, etc. We're also seeking a Bingo Fundraising Chair, please contact Mali at [email protected] if you are interested. Welcome to the new school year! I'm back in the room and getting things ready. I'm looking forward to seeing many of you on Thursday afternoon between 3-6 pm for the social gathering and supply drop-off. Come see the classroom and get yourself settled in and ready for Tuesday! I do have a new website this year; it's a little rough and still under construction. You are welcome to check it out and look at the upcoming events. I have also put a link to the school calendar (under upcoming events) on the website. Hope you have had a great summer. I can't wait to see you all! |
